Water Rocket Lab Report Cindy Essays

Water Rocket Lab Report Cindy Essays Water Rocket Lab Report Cindy Paper Water Rocket Lab Report Cindy Paper We will measure the ranges, maximum altitudes and air time in order to have a better understanding of the projectile motion-As the practical situation which includes the air resistance and different kinds of errors caused by students carelessness s different from the theory,it is unavoidable that the results are quite different from the theoretic statistics. The horizontal velocity is related to the range, while the vertical velocity is related to the maximum altitude. This experiment can help us reinforce the concepts related to the motion in two dimensions although the water rocket does not have the ideal situation. A lot of equations we learned in class can help our group calculate the range and maximum altitude. Introduction Purpose: The purpose of the experiment was to reinforce the concepts related to motion n two dimensions using water rocket launches and the calculations necessary to determine launch speed and range. Background: (1) Because the water rockets are essentially pressurized chambers, they have the same launch speed, regardless of launch angle. (2) Ignoring air drag, a projectile will take the same time for its horizontal motion and its vertical motion. 2) Neglecting air drag, the horizontal velocity of a projectile will remain constant. (3) The vertical motion will have constant acceleration, g. Equations: R = box [ vertical motion] sys = vote + h g to horizontal motion] A hypothesis: The water rocket which is launched at different angles will fly into different heights in the sky and each time it will have different ranges when it drops. Method Materials The materials which ar e prepared to be used for this experiment are a timer, a water rocket, a meter ruler, a launch pad. Procedure Firstly,we need to set the rocket on the ground so that the barrel is exactly vertical. Then we can fire it vertically two or three times, using stopwatches to clock total air time, determining average air time for the vertical launch. Secondly,we are supposed to use the vertical motion equation to find the launch velocity, FL_, which, in this case only, is equal to boy. Thirdly,we need to calculate the horizontal and vertical components of the launch velocity for each of the 300, 45[], and 600 launches, and make a component vector diagram for each of the launch angles like the following diagram. FL = 30 m/s Ivy = sin 200 m/s 200 Example: Vs.. = coos 200 m/s As result,we can calculate the range, R, for launch at each angle. Elf you are willing to set a flag on the field at that distance from the rocket, you can do t. Finally, remember to measure the launch angle and secure the rocket barrel to fire at each of the angles just once, setting a flag where the rocket lands each time and measuring only the difference in range between the two flags to use in calculating percent error. Also remember to measure and record the air time for each launch. Results Important results in verbal form All of the useful lunch angles are 30 degree, 60 degree and 45 degree. The percentage errors of the data of angle Isis the Therefore, our group will mainly use the data of this angle. Calculated Range at 45 degree s 32. Mm. Vertical Displacement at 45 degree is calculated to be 15. 5 m. The measured time at 45 degree is 2. As. Discussion Discuss sources of error and calculate percentage errors on the three ranges, using the calculated range as the accepted value. Sources of errors: 1. The people who look at the protractor may be distracted by the objective factors, so the measured time is not accurate. 2. When students measure the range, it is difficult to have the right range as we cant measure in a straight line. 3. The water rocket may not be able to fall at the exact point on the land. It may leap because of the force. As a result, the range cannot be determined accurately. 4. The air resistance may hamper the flying of the water rocket. 5. Sometimes the water rocket may fly to the reverse direction. 6. Students may make a mistake when they write down the data . They may put the data in a wrong place. Launch angle(degrees) Percentage errors 30 27% 45 0. 3% 60 48. 9% Plot Calculated Range vs.. Launch Angle for all four launch angles. Examine: The range of the water rocket is the largest when the launch angle is 50 Meaning: When the launch angle is smaller than 450, the bigger the launch angle, the larger the range will be. If the launch angle is bigger than 450, the larger the launch angle, the smaller the range will be. Plot Vertical Displacement vs.. Time for one of the launch angles (except 900). Meaning: The vertical displacement is related to the time. As the time goes by, the water rocket will get higher when the initial velocity is invariable. Plot Horizontal Displacement vs.. Time: for one of the launch angles (except 900) Meaning: The horizontal displacement is related to the time. As the time goes by, the water rocket will go farther when the initial velocity is invariable. The water rocket has the largest horizontal displacement when the launch angle is 450. What effect do you think air drag had on your results? The air drag may shorten the range of the water rocket. The air drag will reduce the magnitude of velocity The air drag can change the direction of the water rocket and make it fall down immediately The ways that the experiment might be improved or varied. 1 . Students can use more advanced equipment to measure the air time and he range instead of using the protractor and the meter-ruler. 2. In the four experiments, we can control the pressure and the quantity of the water to remain the same. 3. Students can make a stream-line water rocket to reduce the air drag and make the stream easy to go through. 4. Students can use lighter materials to make the water rocket. 5. According to the physical theory, the water rocket can reach its largest range when it is launched at the 45 degree. However, during the experiment, we had better launch it at the angle between 45 and 55 o reach its largest range. 6. The top of the water rocket should be pointed so the air drag can be reduced. 7. In order to increase the stability of the water rocket, students can use the tripod as the launching pad. 8. To Increase the speed of the water rocket is to increase the amount of water per unit of time. Therefore, the pressure of the water inside the water rocket and the quantity of the water are appropriate for the largest range. Explanation of the results. These results show that our water rocket goes through a projectile motion, specially the one launched at 45 degree, because the percentage is only 0. 3%. Conclusion The air resistance and objective factors influence the examination of the theory of projectile motion. If these factors were eliminated, even though it is not possible, the results of the experiments can be more accurate and convincing. The experiments really make us understand that the range of the projectile in the motion in two dimensions is determined by the initial velocity and the air time. The horizontal velocity is related to the range, while the vertical velocity is related o the maximum altitude. This experiment can help us reinforce the concepts related to the motion in two dimensions although the water rocket does not have the ideal situation. The biggest success is that when the water rocket is launched at the 45 angle, the range is the biggest, which concurs with the theory. References http://item. Taboo. Com/item. Tm? How to Send SAT Scores to Colleges

How to Send SAT Scores to Colleges SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Now that you’ve received your SAT scores, it’s time for the most important part of this process - actually sending scores to colleges! But how do you do it? What are your options? In this article, I’ll give you all the information you need on how the process works and what choices you'll have when sending scores. Should You Send Your SAT Scores? Before I tell you how to send your scores, you should know that you don’t have to send all of them! There’s this great thing called Score Choice that allows you to decide whether or not to send specific SAT scores to colleges if you've taken the test multiple times. You can choose which regular SATs to send by test date and choose which SAT subject tests to send by individual test. Colleges will only get the scores that you decide to send them, so if you do really poorly on one administration of the SAT, no schools will ever have to see it. Well,I should say that MOST schools will never have to see it; there are some that require you to send all of your test scores.See this article for a complete list of the schools that ask to see all of your SAT scores. When sending your scores, you can choose to send a score report for a test date to some schools and not others if you’re applying to some schools that require all scores sent and some schools that don’t.If you’re not sure whether your score is good enough to send, you should take a look at the average scores for your school of choice. For extra advice, read this guide to figuring out your SAT target score. A good rule of thumb is to take the 75th percentile SAT score for students that were admitted to your school of choice (meaning the score that is higher than 75 percent of admitted applicants) and use that as your target score. If you’re still not sure whether you should retake the test, read this guide to help you make a decision. Remember that many colleges also use superscoring for the SAT, meaning they take your best ever score from each section of the test and combine them to come up with the best overall score possible. This means that even if you do worse overall on one SAT date, you still might want to send it in if one of the test scores was your personal record for a particular section.Take a look at this other article for more information on how superscoring might affect your test-taking strategy. How to Send Your SAT Scores First, it’s important to note that you will have to order a score report for each school where you plan on applying, but you can put as many of your scores on that report as you want.It costs the same to send three SAT test scores as it does to send one SAT test score if all three scores are going to the same school. If you log in to your College Board account, you can easily send your scores through the online interface. On your dashboard, you'll see your latest scores front and center: Then, click on the "View Details" button to see your full report. At the top of the report, there are four tabs: Click on the "Score Sends" tab to get to a screen with a button that says "Send Additional Score Reports," and click on that button. You'll see this little interface that allows you to search for colleges and add them to your selected recipients list using the add and remove buttons: Once you have searched for and selected your schools and they're all listed in the "Your Selected Recipients" box, click continue. The next screen gives you the option of selecting which scores you would like to send to schools. The default setting is "all scores", but you can exercise score choice at this point and choose only to send scores from certain test dates if you want. After this, all you have to do is review your order, submit your payment, and you're all set! It’s important to remember that score delivery may take a different length of time for different schools, so plan accordingly. You should check the websites for your schools of choice to see how late they accept scores. Types of Score Reports #1: Free Score Reports The first option for sending your scores is to send them when you register for the SAT.Every time you register for the test, you automatically get four free score reports. You can use these free reports anytime between registration and nine days after your test date.If you’re taking the SAT during your junior year, however, you might not be sure where you want to send your scores quite yet.Even if you’re a senior, it's sometimes a good idea to wait until after you get your scores back so you can make sure they’re as high as you expected. #2: Regular Score Reports You can send score reports to colleges after you get your scores back for a fee. It’s $.25 per score report after the free report time window has passed, but you can get a fee waiver if you’re eligible.Talk to your high school counselor if you think you’ll need a fee waiver to send your scores. The fee waiver will give you four additional free score reports (worth $45) to use at any time. #3: Rush Score Reports If you’re worried that your scores won’t arrive in time, you can use Rush Reporting to send your scores faster for an additional fee.Rush Reporting costs $31 for the first report and $.25 for each additional report, and your scores will be sent either electronically or by first class mail, depending on the way your school receives scores. Rush Reporting will get your scores to colleges within two days of your order, although schools may take additional time to actually process scores depending on how their system is organized. There is no fee waiver available for Rush Reporting, so if you think score reports will be a financial burden on you, plan ahead and avoid this option. Rush reporting and sorority rush: both times you're paying to get something fast that you could have gotten the normal way if you planned your life better (SAT scores and friends respectively). Summary Sending your SAT scores to colleges is pretty easy, but you should always take the time to make an informed decision about which ones to send and when you plan to send them.Check the deadlines for sending scores to the schools where you're applying.Keep in mind that Score Choice is usually an option, although you should verify school policies before assuming that this is the case. You can send up to four free score reports in the time between test registration and nine days after the test.If you want to wait to see your scores or don’t know where you’re applying yet, you have the opion of sending score reports after this time window for a fee of $.25 per school.Rush Reporting is also available, but save this as a last resort! Remember that sending your SAT scores to colleges is the ultimate purpose of this whole ordeal, so it’s important to be on top of deadlines and send only your best scores if possible! What's Next? Now that you know how to send your scores to colleges, learn more about how to get and interpret your scores so that you're making the right choices about which ones to send. If you're curious about your scores and want a more detailed picture of where you struggled on the test, you might look into ordering the Question and Answer Service. Wondering whether you should take the SAT again? Read this article to find out how many times you should take it. Disappointed with your scores? Criminal Investigation Methods Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Criminal Investigation Methods - Research Paper Example Such emergencies include fire breakouts, floods, earthquakes and criminal attacks, among others. Among other responsibilities of the police include protection to top leaders, maintaining the general peace and order, protecting specific governmental or public property or infrastructure and ensuring order in the correctional facilities among others (Siegel, 2008). As a police officer, I would admit that my work is interesting and helpful to the public; however, it is faced with several challenges. This discourse tends to elaborate on the policing in the United States of America. Functions of the police According to the United States of America’s constitution, the police is mandated to ensure some specific responsibilities. The responsibilities are divided into three different categories namely maintaining order, enforcing law and providing service. The police are required to maintain order, mean they should protect the public from a few individuals who may opt to compromise the general peace of the public. The public has the right to call the police in case of crime or any suspicions. The rights have ranged from domestic to the public levels. In the family level, any of the spouse or children is free to call the police hotlines incase of any disparity. ... The marshals are however mandated to kill or arrest the criminal depending on the situation (Dammer, 2010). The marshals apply when the criminal is declared lethal in the public. The police are also required to provide services to the public or citizens. This applies in case of calamities or disasters. The police is required to collaborate with various bodies like the medics, first aid agencies to comfort the victims, by transporting them to safer grounds among other activities. The police should also protect the victims from being violated by the public and here they ensure there is no looting or robbery of the victims’ property. The police could also guide tourists or foreigners ensuring their general safety. The police could also enlighten the public on the dangers of certain substances like drugs, prostitutions and gambling among other activities. Still on services, the police could provide a safe environment for lost children or adults then later leas with relevant bodies like child care departments to ensure the victim is delivered to the right parents or guardians. The same police provides safety to the public during public gatherings like in sport arenas, public rallies or crusades. Police are also required to help the elderly adults in the banking facilities, health care facilities among others. Types of police in the United States There are different types of police in the country, and each is mandated to different responsibilities. The different categories are organized into some agencies, with each state having different kinds of agencies. It is also important to note that the police tend to have different

What an Amazing person Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

What an Amazing person - Essay Example He was chubby, middle aged; and he was wearing a green jacket and dirty pants. What I couldnt stand most was the stink of beer emanating from his mouth, as well as from the opened jar that he was holding. Although consuming beer in public places is illegal, he was in no condition to care about such things. He was so drunk that he couldn’t control his steps when he boarded the light rail. I felt unfortunate, when, of all the empty seats he could have chosen, he chose the one next to me. Having been brought into proximity this way, he immediately started talking to me. I felt awkward and embarrassed about the situation, especially with other passengers glancing at us curiously. I soon realized that I have no option but to put up with him. He talked about his life, and said â€Å"I was a millionaire, but I lost everything now, including my house. He continued â€Å"but I will never give up until I get all that is mine.† I was surprised with his clarity of thought even in such an inebriated state. But at the same time I did not take all his words for facts. He talked about how his chronic illness led to one surgery after another, until he lost all of his wealth. He spoke very emotionally about how he will fight on in life despite presently being in an unfortunate condition. Seeing that I was skeptical about his story, he prompted me ask him questions. He told me that he would answer any question I ask. Just to divert focus from his difficult personal life, I started talking about different countries. Qatar came into the discussion as it is my home country. He then amazed me with his knowledge about the country. He listed Qatars recent foreign policies and how it has improved in the last 15 years. He also mentioned Sheik Hamad, the president of Qatar; and Hamad Bin Jassim, the minister of foreign affairs of Qatar and how great were they in the political world. When he said that Qatar might be

Dead Poets Society Essay Example for Free

Dead Poets Society Essay Dead Poets Society made a huge impact on how I see things now. I secretly branded Mr. Keating, as the Epitome of teaching, every students dream is to find a teacher like Mr. Keating. Eventhough his teaching style is unconventional, you would really learn something. Hes not like your typical teacher who teaches by the book, because for me, Mr. Keating IS the book. All his lectures are inspirational, he teaches things that would not just help you academically, but also emotionally. He reminds me so much about my Highschool history teacher, a very father-like person, very comical, easy to hang with and lastly he encourages us to pursue our dreams, even though our dreams are impossible. Mr. Keating and my highschool teacher made me realize that there are no limits when we talk about achieving what we want and reaching for our goals, the only hindrance would be ourselves, the fear of not succeeding. So that in the end, we would have little regrets or non at all. I think that its one of the many factors that led me to put Dead Poets Society as one of the must-watch movie list for me. At first thinking outside the box was such a cliche for me, but after watching it, I try to apply that idea to everything I do. This story is very suitable for us, teenagers. Who are currently in that state where we are still confused of what we really want for our future. Add up the nerve wrecking peer pressure, love, parents, homeworks, proffessors, organizations and the like, which contributes to our decisions.

Essay examples --

What drives success? Where does it come from? Can you be born into it? These are some common questions when it comes to success. Every one can has their own opinion about what success is, and also what it takes to become successful people in today’s world. That is where Malcolm Gladwell comes into play. After reading â€Å"Outliers: The Story of Success†, Gladwell has helped me view the journey to success in ways I have and haven’t heard of before. He helps you understand some complex ideas of why someone may be more successful that someone else. To me success is determined by a lot of things and there is no one thing that can make your success, you have to have multiple things that are not found in one place. There are many things that come to your mind think of when it comes to success, age would be one of the many determining factors. In the book, Gladwell used hockey as an example. Hockey is a sport dominated by Canadians. In Canada, there is a hockey deadline where if a kid is not 10 by January 1st, he has to wait until next year to begin playing. This gives a kid with a birthday before the deadline an advantage over his opponents who could only be a few months’ young than him, because he had a year more of experience. Americans’ understand this in a different way. In the United States school system you have to be 6 before a certain time of the year before you can enter kindergarten. This could be different because those who enter earlier could graduate at a younger age, those who have to wait could be more prepared for school. It depends how you look at each situation, because they all can be different. If you have every played a sport, instrument, or simply attended school then you have heard the quote â€Å"Practice makes perfect.... ...l believes that’s why we are behind educationally. I believe this is a true statement, our kids in united stated should spend more time learning than playing video games, texting, and on social media which seems to be the most popular thing these days. Success can be defined by a lot of different things, whether you are tall or short, rich or poor, your definition may be different than one of your peers. I believe there is not a â€Å"right† answer to the questions â€Å"what is success?† or â€Å"how you do you become successful?† This book really gave me a few more ways of thinking about how success comes along. Some of the things Malcolm Gladwell comes up with are extreme but there is no right or wrong answer. To me success is determined by a lot of things and there is no one thing that can make you successful, you have to have multiple things that are not found in one place.

Custom Coffee & Chocolate Essay

According to the overview of Custom Coffee & Chocolate’s business, Bonnie Brewer and Stacy Kim run a small cafà © where they serve unique coffee, chocolates and maintain a shop. The cafà © is located near a university, where students, faculty, staff, and local residents are the main customers. They have run the business successfully, working together without any employees and selling their products only in the cafà ©. They have started to think about further development. The main question at this point is what strategies they should launch to achieve that aim. The first step to answer on that question is analyzing the company’s internal environment and identifying it strengths and weaknesses. The greatest strength is undoubtedly knowledge acquired by the owners during business and marketing courses and there experience gained at work. The owners also chose an interesting location with many students who they know and understand very well, which combined with the offer is strength of their business. Customers can sit in comfortable chairs, on couches, and at coffee tables, and chat or read newspapers between classes. As we consider weaknesses, we can identify a few problematic things. The largest of these is the limited access to services due to the small space in the cafà ©. Moreover, lack of employees makes it impossible for the cafà © to open longer, because the owners also have to handle the finances. There is also no possibility for customers to order goods over the phone or online, and for the cafà © to deliver service to locations on campus, such as dorms and lounges where students are studying. Another weakness is quite poor menu, which should be extended by new products. Additionally, too little attention is paid to social inclusion by organizing events such as poetry readings or discussion groups, and conducting a blog which could integrate students around the cafà ©. Lack of a wireless connection that customers could use is a significant drawback. The last weakness, which is really important, is a lack of financial reserve. The owners exhausted their savings and the initial small business loan, and  their six-month lease is up. The second step is analyzing the company’s external environment and identifying it opportunities and threats. The greatest opportunity for the development of the company is the ability to reach a wider range of customers who are potentially interested in using the service of the cafà ©. Custom Coffee & Chocolate’s business plan bases on purchasing only fair trade coffee and chocolates made by a few local suppliers. It is worth considering the possibility of obtaining a better price from producer in exchange for promoting their brands. It is also possible to extent the number of potential suppliers, which is likely to enable the cafà © to purchase products at much better prices. An opportunity for the development of the company is the application of new technologies such as online shops, websites or blogs, to allow better contacts with customers on the Internet. Unfortunately, threats also can appear in the company’s external environment. It could be a decrease in the number of students at the University or changed location of classes. The biggest threat may be the emergence of competitors offering similar services at lower prices or better quality. The strategy adopted by the company, which consists of buying products from local suppliers and ordering only fair trade coffee, may cause a risk of introduction of cheaper substitutes on the market by competitors. The last but not the least threat is connected with the need to increase the cafà ©Ã¢â‚¬â„¢s debt by taking additional loans for further development. After determining the strengths and weaknesses of the company’s internal environment as well as the opportunities and threats of the company’s external environment, it is necessary to propose some strategies that take into account the interdependencies between particular elements of SWOT analysis, which will help to develop the company in the right way. One of the ideas is to acquire new customers by increasing the availability of products. Arranging a sale of products through the online store and allowing customers to play orders by phone, organizing appropriate marketing campaigns on the website or in local media, gives opportunities to achieve that goal. Ordered goods would be delivered by courier. At the initial stage, the range of delivery might be limited to locations on campus, such as dorms and lounges where students are studying. This strategy would be built on opportunities of using the Internet and growing the customer’s base without the necessity of looking for larger premises to run  a cafà ©. It is necessary to hire employees to allow the owners to focus on strategic management activities in the cafà ©. It would give Bonnie Brewer and Stacy Kim opportunity to use their knowledge and experience and take over more of the finance and marketing activities. Another interesting strategy that can protect the company against the loss of customers is building social cohesion by turning the cafà © into a cult meeting place for students, faculty and other staff of the University. Organizing poetry readings or discussion groups could be a great idea. Moreover, those activities would be supported by a blog which would be moderated by the cafà ©Ã¢â‚¬â„¢s owners. This way, drinking coffee or eating delicious chocolates would be only a natural addition and benefit during meetings. In that case, the main strength is the specific location with students, faculty and staff whose the owners of the cafe know and understand well. Having loyal customer groups may be particularly important when some competitors appear on the market. This way, the company could significantly reduce this kind of threat. A very effective strategy which could be used is building a recognizable brand of their own products. They should be presented as unique and not available from other competitors. In addition, it might be possible to prepare a wider range of products which could be better suited to the local customers needs. This strategy should be based on the promotion of local products and suppliers of products and high quality fair trade coffee. It could be an opportunity to get additional money from sponsors of the cultural and community building mission carried out by the owners of the cafà ©. The above strategy is based on the strength connected with high quality products which take a niche place on the market and cannot be easily replaced. It protects the company from the threat of competition and improves its competitive advantage.

“My brother, my sister, and I”

The quite an engaging story, the book describes an event in the author’s life. Yoko, then 13, her 17-year old sister, and 21-year old brother became refugees to post World War II Japan. Hoping for the better life, they escape from North Korea only to find extreme hardship in the new land. The novel does not feature the series of quick actions but is able to transfer real-to-life feelings and emotions of the sibling trio. In quite a charming way it tells how these three young people settled down in their first desolate home, owners of which were nice and kind people. Especially the meaningful were their interactions. However, the terrible fire in the warehouse kills their landlords and puts one of the siblings in a hospital. In addition, their problems are multiplied by a terrible blame of the setting the fire and killing the kind couple. Homeless and hungry they fasten together, spending most time in the hospital room by the bed of their sibling. Yoko, once the product of the middle class family, experienced homelessness, hunger, terrible treatment by her classmates, and at times impossible despair. Her mother has died, her father was a POW, and seeing as her two older siblings had to clean toilets to get scraps for her to survive was beyond desperation, but full of humility. This novel teaches us how important the family ties are, those that despite of, at times, very difficult circumstances in life, help us survive and make better of ourselves. This novel also teaches us, that despite the adversities, there are people who are wiling to help, like an odd Burakumin couple they met under the bridge. This novel is about how people, especially young people, can preserve their dignity despite impossibly difficult circumstance that at time life presents. I impression of what I read was not about the adventure this trio experienced but about the yielding motif, â€Å"White righteous men should suffer?† References: Watkins, Y. K. 1996. Send them a copy of your latest resume and the job posting before you list them as a reference, so they know which of your skills to emphasize when they talk you up.Apply in person or onlineDo your research to find out whether t he company you’re applying to work for accepts applications online (in which case be extra vigilant about uploading the correct and well-proofread versions of your documents; usually saving them as a pdf is most effective), or whether you should drop off a folder with your resume, letters of recommendation, and cover letter.Apply here:  Administrative assistant jobsInterview like a proMany of these basics are widely available online- dress professionally, nothing too flashy or revealing or casual, no cologne, plenty of deodorant, neatly groomed and well-rested. Don’t make the mistake I make nearly every time of over-thinking your handshake or arriving way to early and downing a giant iced coffee while you’re waiting across the street!Research the business ahead of timeKnowing how old the company is, who its founders were, what their mission is, and how your position fits into their overall business will help you answer questions like â€Å"why are you the bes t fit for ABC corp’s downtown office?† or â€Å"what will you bring to ABCs professional atmosphere?† with poise and confidence. In summary: know what you have to offer, and know what they need.Be prepared to highlight 5-7 personal anecdotes that showcase your skills It’s not enough to say you’re organized, describe a project you worked on that required you to exercise all of your organizational skills like planning ahead, coordinating with vendors, tracking payments, running an event, etc.Follow up graciouslyThe morning after your interview, be sure to send a thank-you note or appreciative email to everyone you met with- or if you emailed with only one point person, ask them to pass on your regards. You want to express thanks for their time and information, and reiterate your enthusiasm for the position.See the bigger pictureWhen I first started working as an assistant, I was eager and ready-to-please, but eventually, I got burned out on menial task s and what I perceived as a lack of respect- people talked over me as though I were invisible in meetings and seemed to only think of me when it was time to order things. What I had to realize was that being invisible actually gave me great access to the levels of the company where I wanted to work anyway, and that being the one responsible for keeping everyone in pens and copy paper actually meant everyone relied on me.Be the one everyone wants to knowThe all time great administrative assistants, like Mrs. Landingham on The West Wing or Donna on Suits or Joan Holloway-Harris on Mad Men, thrive because they are the hubs of their offices. If you want to know anything that’s going on, you go to them, and you ask politely, and hope they are feeling helpful. This can be you!As long as you recognize when you’re paying your dues, and are generous with your time and knowledge, people will appreciate your role as gatekeeper.Prove yourselfAnother crucial component is being able to effortlessly pull off the impossible- or at least make it look easy. Assisting is all about anticipating needs, thinking ahead, and taking initiative to make the higher-ups’ jobs run smoothly.I used to get exasperated when my bosses hounded me about small assignments. Eventually I realized the way to avoid follow-up emails with the little urgent exclamation point was to communicate quickly and clearly, even if it was just a quick â€Å"this is still in the works, estimated delivery date is 4/12† note that didn’t even get a response. My bosses learned to trust I would turn jobs around exactly when I said I would, and they could rely on me to communicate if I hit a snag.Be a trusted confidanteI am not going to lie. Office gossip is great. It is fun, it builds work-friendships like nothing else, and seems like a great way to boost your own standing when you’re the one with the intel. But, a truly great administrative assistant knows that loose lips sink s hips- if your boss is trusting you with a big project, or access to confidential information, your career will be better served by keeping a lid on it and being worthy of that trust.Look at tasks that seem more personal than administrative as a sign that you’re becoming indispensible- don’t let it derail your other work, but see what professional benefits come after you demonstrate your ability to keep someone’s confidence. Now that you know what the job looks like, where and how to look for it, and what to do when you get there, you should have everything you need to decide whether a career as an administrative assistant is right for you. Good luck and happy searching!Apply here:  Administrative Assistant jobs

John Snow and Epidemology Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

John Snow and Epidemology - Essay Example He attended day school because of his family background; his father could only afford that because he was an unskilled laborer. Snow was a bright student; his best subject was mathematics and he did well in that and on other subjects. Simmons (2002) reveals that Snow graduated from the University of London in 1843 and he also obtained a doctorate in medicine a year later. John Snow’s epidemiological studies assisted in finding the root of cholera in London in 1854. A number of diseases had affected the residents of England prior 19th century, some include plague in 1665. However, there was an epidemic of cholera in 1831 thought to have been brought by travellers and merchants from parts of Asia. Cholera was a serious threat to the population of England. Medical experts were confused, but John Snow came to their rescue. He revealed that Cholera was caused by a certain agent in London water. Previously before his revelation or theory, the other physicians attributed the spread of cholera to filthiness of London City (Simmons, 2002). The previous theories relating to the spread of cholera pointed out that it was an airborne disease. This was in mid-19th century whereby physicians thought that cholera concentrated at the low levels altitudes. Workers and merchants in slaughterhouses were causing the spread of cholera according to Miasmatists. The Miasmatists explained that the foul smell from the slaughterhouses was the causing the spread of cholera. John Snow refuted their claims saying that the workers who frequently works at the slaughterhouses inhales miasmus. They have however not been the targets of cholera. He meant that the inhalation of miasmus did not cause the spread of cholera. The spread of Cholera according to Snow was caused by ingestion of morbid matter related to cholera (Ramsay, 2006). Relationship between host, agent and environment increases the spread of the disease. The three aspects exist independently, but their integration will lead to
